In the November 2003 issue of Good Housekeeping, (page 83), leading heart surgeon Mehmet Oz, (Professor of Surgery at Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons and Attending Surgeon at Columbia Presbyterian Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery in New York City), and host of the new TV series Second Opinion outlines his and his families must-take vitamins and other supplements. The article entitled “How I keep my family healthy” lists the vitamins and supplements plus dosages that he takes to help live a healthy and energetic life.
Dr. Oz discusses 9 different vitamins and supplements. The ONLY vitamin/supplement that he mentions by brand name is Q-Gel. His dosage: 60mg of Q-Gel Coenzyme Q10 twice a day. Note: he also prescribes Q-Gel in higher dosages for his heart-surgery patients.
Dr. Oz describes Q-Gel CoQ10 as “a powerful antioxidant that boosts circulation and energy”. He also says that he takes it “when preparing for bigger athletic challenges”. We find just his daily schedule, (he is at the hospital at 6:15 A.M. for heart surgery), challenge enough!
One of the other supplements he mentions is Omega 3. Dr. Oz describes Omega 3 Fatty Acids as “a wonderful formulation that has been shown to protect against hardening of the arteries and that also lowers the body’s levels of triglycerides”. Note: Dr. Oz does NOT mention a specific brand of Omega 3 in the Good Housekeeping article – including the Omega 3 we carry. We do not want to imply any kind of endorsement of our Omega 3 – just that Omega 3 with EPA and DHA is part of his own stay-well regimen and… maybe Omega 3 should be part of your own stay-well regimen.
